Buddy Break

WHAT IS BUDDY BREAK?

Join Our Facebook Group

Buddy Break is a free program where children with special needs, VIPs, make new friends, play fun games, enjoy crafts, interact with therapy dogs,  and participate in musical activities! Siblings have fun, too. This is an opportunity for caregivers to get a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities for three hours every fourth Friday of the month.

Each VIP kid is paired one-on-one with a trained and loving volunteer, called Buddies, to participate in that day's activities.

Who are VIP kids?

VIPs are kids with special needs, which include any physical, cognitive, medical, or hidden disability, chronic or life-threatening illness, or those who are medically fragile. The Fellowship provides Buddy Break for VIP children ages 4 through 16 years old and for their siblings ages 4 through 12.

Here's how to sign up as a VIP:

  • Sign up your child on the Buddy Break website.
  • RSVP for a require VIP Orientation. VIP Orientations will be during scheduled Buddy Break nights
  • Prior to orientation, print and complete the Authorization/Release Form and Declaration of Consent Form for each VIP and sibling attending Buddy Break. We will have a notary at orientation to notarize the forms for you.
  • RSVP for a Buddy Break as a VIP and sibling.

Who are buddies?

Buddies are the friends that VIPs are paired up with each month. No previous experience with VIP kids is necessary to be a Buddy—just a loving heart, open arms, and a willingness to learn. Buddies need to be at least 14 years old, will need to go through a two-hour training class, and agree to have a background check. Junior Buddies are 12 to 14 years old, however a parent must serve as a Buddy also.

Here's how to sign up as a Buddy:

  • Sign up to be a Buddy on the Buddy Break website.
  • Contact us at FTRBuddyBreak@gmail.com to sign up for a Buddy Break 101 training class. We will have training during Buddy Breaks each month.
  • RSVP for a Buddy Break as a Buddy.
